History

Winstrol was developed by Winthrop Labs in the early 1960s and is still approved by the FDA for use in humans, where it has the ability to treat anemia. In addition, it is also used in veterinary medicine to promote muscle growth, bone density, appetite and red blood cell production.

As with most other steroids, interest in Winstrol has grown over the last 20 years among bodybuilders who use it as a “cutting steroid” before a competition or photo shoot. Additionally, Winstrol can be easily added to a stack due to its drying and curing benefits.

Anabolic and androgenic ratio

Winstrol is definitely an anabolic steroid with very low androgenic activity. In fact, it offers a 320 anabolic rating and only a 30 androgenic rating. As a reminder, we can mention that testosterone is 100:100. Therefore, it is approximately three times more anabolic than testosterone and three times less androgenic.

Delivery forms

Winstrol is a fairly unique compound in that it can be taken either orally or in the form of an aqueous suspension (water solution) that can either be injected or simply drunk. In fact, many prefer to drink the injectable version since the suspension injections are very painful.

How it works

The key to understanding Winstrol’s effects is to remember that it is a dihydrotestosterone (DHT) derivative. DHT is an androgen hormone that gives men human-like characteristics. What’s particularly good about DHT is that it is not converted into estrogen and 5% of testosterone produced or introduced exogenously is converted directly into DHT.

In terms of its chemical structure, the 3Keto group on the hormone’s AR ring is replaced with an additional methyl group to protect the compound from being extinguished in the body. This means that it is a C17alphaalklyated anabolic steroid.

Winstrol is also excellent for reducing sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG). As a result, when added to a stack, you can expect a huge increase in free testosterone ratio. This is a very important property of Winstrol, as it is precisely the free testosterone that is most important. In simple terms, adding Winstrol to your existing stack makes these other steroids more effective.

Benefits for the athlete

Winstrol was banned in the 1970s by the IOC and IAAF, with the most famous doping incident being the case of Ben Johnson, who won the 100 meter sprint at the 1988 Summer Olympics and subsequently tested positive for Winstrol. Unfortunately, this incident caused paranoia among lawmakers, which led to new steroid laws in the United States.

Dosages

Due to a relatively short half-life, Winstrol should be used daily.

The oral version should be administered twice daily for a total of 2550 mg, while the injectable depot version should be injected or drunk every 2436 hours at the same dosage.

I have found that conservative dosing works well when using this steroid as part of a stack and that too much of it results in a higher chance of side effects. After all, Winstrol makes the other compounds in your stack more powerful.

Half-life

The half-life of oral Winstrol is approximately 8 hours, and the half-life of the injectable version is approximately 1 day.

Detection times

The detection time of oral Winstrol is 3 weeks, while the injectable drug can be detected 2 months after the last pen. Therefore, it is not the best option for tested athletes.

Side effects

As mentioned above, the good news about Winstrol is that it cannot aromatize, so there are no estrogenic side effects. However, there are still some side effects to consider.

One of the most common side effects associated with elevated DHT levels is the fact that this hormone fries scalp hair follicles. Unfortunately, there is no way to prevent this on Winstrol, as even the use of 5AlphaReductase inhibitors such as Finasteride or Dutasteride is useless here.

Remember, these drugs are designed to stop the metabolization of testosterone into DHT, but Winstrol is already a DHT. Therefore, these medications will not help prevent hair loss with Winstrol. In fact there is a reason why you see most pro bodybuilders almost soon if there was a way to prevent this they would have solved this problem a long time ago.

In addition, like most oral steroids, Winstrol is methylated and therefore liver toxic. In fact, even the injectable version is liver toxic, so it makes more sense to drink the injectable version too and avoid additional injections.
