SARMs: Complete Guide to Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators

These compounds have been around for a while, but most of them are still being researched to this day to see what potential they might have in the medical world.

SARMs are considered a safer alternative to other performance-enhancing drugs such as steroids and prohormones.

As you may already know, some steroids are prescribed to patients who suffer from muscle wasting, for example.

But the problem with steroids is that they have side effects. You’ve probably heard of people suffering from steroids such as acne and hair loss.

This is not the case with SARMs. They work completely differently than most performance enhancers. The term SARM speaks for itself, they bind selectively to the androgen receptors. The fact that these compounds act selectively is what makes them so great.

By being selective in everything you do, you won’t have terrible side effects.

This is the reason why so many athletes are drawn to SARMs, they seem to get great results without any negative effects.

Before we talk about the different types of SARMs, I will tell you a secret.

GW501516 (Cardarine), MK677 (Ibutamoren) and SR9009 (Stenabolic) do not belong to the SARM family.

This may be a bit confusing, but it is due to how the providers market the products. You will often find vendors listing them as SARMs because it is convenient.

GW501516 (Cardarine) is called a PPAR agonist. It is known for tremendous endurance and performance enhancement. By improving cardiovascular performance, Cardarine also helps stimulate fat loss. It is often referred to as exercise in a bottle. At 1020 mg per day you can take your intensity to the next level.

MK677 (Ibutamoren) is a growth hormone secretagogue. What Ibutamoren does is it increases levels of growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor (IGF1). What makes MK677 so special is that it is one of the few compounds that can give growth hormone levels a boost. Even at a low dosage of 10 to 20 mg, you can expect it to increase performance, burn fat and even help build muscle.

Stenabolic (SR9009) is very comparable to GW501516 (Cardarine). It is a RevErbaAgonist which makes it a great fat burner. Not only does it help burn fat, but it also significantly improves endurance, just like Cardarine does. The recommended dosage for Stenabolic is between 10 and 30 mg per day. This seems to be the ideal place for most researchers.

Now that we’ve covered these active ingredients, it’s time to move on to the “legitimate” SARMs. I would like to start with my personal favorite, LGD4033, also known as Ligandrol.

LGD4033 (Ligandrol) is a very effective SARM when it comes to building lean muscles. It is capable of building a significant amount of muscle within a short period of time. This makes Ligandrol the ideal filler, but also for cutting. Especially when you consume fewer calories, it helps you maintain muscle and strength. According to anecdotal evidence, the recommended dosage is between 5 and 10 mg.

RAD140 (Testolone) is very comparable to actual steroids. Although it is a SARM, steroid-like results are believed to occur. The first things you will notice when experimenting with Testolone are increased strength, aggression and muscle mass. It is recommended to start with a low dosage of RAD140, preferably 10 mg per day.

Ostarine (MK2866) can be used for cutting, bulking and touch-ups. It is very good for maintaining muscle mass and even building muscle. You will mainly see people using it during a calorie deficit. Ostarine helps them stay strong even though they consume few calories. It is by far the most researched SARM and the recommended dosage is between 10 and 30 mg per day.

S23 is by far the strongest SARM in the world. This compound pretty much blows every other SARM out of the water, but it is said to have some side effects. However, it’s no wonder that S23 has very high anabolic activity, resulting in rapid muscle and strength gains.

S4 (Andarine) is a potent SARM that has the ability to completely alter a physique. The effects of Andarine are very comparable to those of Testolone and Ligandrol. It is known to build muscle and strength quickly. Based on anecdotal experience, most researchers seem to go with 50 mg per day.

YK11 is similar to RAD140 because it is also a very powerful SARM. There is not much information available about this active ingredient, so it is less popular than the other SARMs.

WHAT SHOULD BE NOTED?

Because SARMs are considered research chemicals, the industry is unregulated.

This means that there are many counterfeit and poor quality products. The dangers of counterfeit products are that if you don’t know what they contain, they could be harmful.

It is important that you purchase these products from a known and legitimate source. Make sure third-party results are available. This way you know you are purchasing genuine Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators.

COMPARISON OF SARMEN VS STEROIDS

You will often see people comparing Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMs) vs Anabolic Androgenic Steroids.

Compounds like testosterone and trenbolone are known to increase muscle mass very quickly, but they also have many side effects.

SARMs have a different mechanism than steroids . This allows them to build muscle in a similar way, but without terrible side effects.

Don’t get me wrong, these compounds are not 100% free of side effects. You can definitely experience things like suppressed hormone levels and nausea, but it’s nothing compared to the side effects of steroids.

In particular, some selective androgen receptor modulators are intended to mimic the anabolic effects of steroids. Testolone and S23 are undoubtedly the closest to real steroids.

Some users even choose to stack SARMs and steroids together. You will often see people running Testolone and Ligandrol along their steroid cycle. Mainly as a kickstarter for cycling.

It is said that they are also much easier to recover from.

When you look at SARMs versus steroids, the impact of compounds like testosterone is much greater than a SARM like Ostarine.

SARMS AGAINST PROHORMONES

You’ve probably heard of prohormones like Epistane and Halodrol. They used to be quite popular, which is what SARMs are today.

Most prohormones convert to estrogen, which can lead to side effects such as gynecomastia. This is not the case with selective androgen receptor modulators because they are not converted into estrogen.

When it comes to which compound is more effective, it is quite difficult to say. For example, Epistane is a very effective compound, but so is RAD140 (Testolone).

I’m pretty sure SARMs are a better choice because they don’t flavor.

WHICH SARMS ARE THE STRONGEST?

There are many different opinions as to which SARM is the strongest. Personally I think S23, RAD140 and maybe YK11 are the strongest.

They all have very high anabolic activity, which will lead to great results.

SARMS SIDE EFFECTS

They hardly have any side effects. At most, you will notice some suppression of your natural hormone production. This is also only temporary.

Suppression occurs particularly with compounds such as LGD4033, MK2866, RAD140, S23 and YK11. When using these compounds, it is always recommended to have Post Cure Therapy (PCT) on hand.

It’s worth mentioning that not everyone experiences hormone suppression. Every person is different and the dosage and length of the course also play a big role in whether you are suppressed or not.

As you may already know, real steroids can cause nasty side effects, an alternative to steroids would be legal steroids, which have similar effects to SARMs.

MK2866 can also be suppressive, but it’s not really common. For Ostarine, I would suggest going with a natural testosterone booster to be on the safe side.

It is also worth mentioning that S4 (Andarine) can cause vision problems. This is because Andarine binds to the receptors in the eye. They are particularly sensitive to light and a yellow tint can occur.

WHERE SHOULD YOU BUY SARMS?

Because there are a lot of counterfeit and underdosed products out there, you should only buy SARMs from reputable sources.
